1) Just
give me the basics ... For the VMCC rally you
need a driver, a navigator, and of course a MINI. Rally day is
September 19, a Sunday. Competitors are asked to meet at Coquitlam
Centre, located at 2929 Barnett Highway, at the corner of Barnett
and Lougheed Highway. An exact meeting time and place will be announced
soon. A short drivers' and navigators' meeting will be held by
the West Coast Rally Association to give all competitors their
instructions for the day. At the appointed time the first MINI
will leave the start line, with competitors being released after
that in one-minute intervals. We are expecting up to 60 MINI/Minis,
so the start could last up to an hour. The course, which will remain
secret until rally day, is expected to be around six to seven hours,
so make sure you fill up the gas tank. The event is expected to
conclude by around 5 PM and entrants are then asked to return to
Coquitlam Centre for the wrap up.
2) Will this rally be hard on my MINI? No, there is no more risk
in being involved in this rally format than there is in everyday
driving. The event takes
place entirely on paved road surfaces and the rally instructions
will never ask any team to drive at speeds higher
than the speed limit. This rally format is both safe and legal.
3)
Do I need special insurance for a navigational rally such as this? No,
this event takes place on open roads and because of this the rally
instructions will never ask competitors to do anything illegal.
Your existing auto insurance coverage will cover both you and your
vehicle during this event. Your entry fee also includes a one day
Membership fee in the WCRA, which entitles you to coverage under
their 3rd party liability insurance policy.
